4. Surface Book for professional writers

Let us be clear, this is only recommended for professional writers. We honestly think this is too expensive for seasonal writers because it costs in excess of $1500 which is something only professional writers who writes for a living should be investing. If you do not consider yourself a professional, see the recommended laptops below for the best bang for your buck.

This Surface book is the latest innovation by Microsoft, which has loaded features and is extremely powerful. Surface Book has 6 different versions with different memory, RAM, processor and graphic card.

For you, graphic card is not that important and 8GB RAM and Intel i5 processor is enough. Whether you would like to have 128GB memory or 256GB memory (both SSD) on your surface book depends on the amount of work you would like to save on your machine. On the surface book, battery life is 12 hours,  the display is ultra high definition and keyboard has backlit feature.

7. MacBook Pro writers 2017

We love MacBook! All of our writers use MacBook to write the content on this website! MacBook pro is extremely portable due to its light weight and relatively small size. It is pretty thin and easily fits on any size of backpacks.

We, along with hundreds of thousands of others, have many reasons to fall in love with the MacBook. It reboots within seconds and there is no lagging and that weirdo circle rotating in the middle of the screen every time it is opened. It has a backlit keyboard for writing in low light environment and palm rest area is spacious. Overheating is not a  problem at all on MacBook pro.

Getting MacBook pro WITH RETINA DISPLAY is very important because writers tend to stare at laptop screens for longer period of time and retina display will make sure your eyes don’t get any  stress. Your eyes will be cool as a cucumber when you are writing on a MacBook with retina display. Usually, MacBook with retina display costs under $1500, but you can get it for cheaper if you know how to shop smart. • Thanks for the comment Rob. Writers naturally use the laptops more than regular users. Its better if they make sure their laptop is fast, responsive and does not overheat.

  1. I am wondering if you have ever had problems with your thumb brushing against the touchpad and highlighting and erasing content while you’re writing. This is my biggest problem with my current laptop and I’m not sure whether I need to just get a wireless mouse and shut down the touchpad altogether, or if you have found that any of these laptops has less of a problem with that. Thanks!

    • I personally have my thumbs in the air, just few cms above my touchpad. But, I understand it is not easy to change the style altogether. I am not sure exactly which laptop you have but there are ways to make your touchpad less sensitive. That should reduce the problem by a lot. Try that first and see if it corrects the problem before you shutdown the touchpad altogether. Let us know which laptop model do you have in possession or search “reduce touchpad sensitivity on …….”. Lots of forum entries should pop up with the exact way to do that on your particular laptop. Hope that helps!

  2. These products are good. My question is: Can i used the portable monitor with it? If Yes, then please tell me which laptop is best for connect and used with secondary monitor.

  3. THANKYOU for this article, I was a very unsure what laptop to buy and didn’t want to pay out a load of money on a laptop I’m completely unsure about. I’m still a little unsure but now I have read this article with its useful tips and pointers, I feel confident enough to explore the laptop world and make a decision.

  4. Could you use the word ‘awesome’ a few more times, please?

First, I don’t think you know what writers need in a laptop. Tiny screens, 1080p resolutions… these are for gamers, not writers. A writer needs a display that can swivel around, one it’s open, into a portrait orientation… you know, like a sheet of paper so an entire page can be viewed all at once. As for keyboards, chiclets just won’t do and there isn’t a single laptop you’ve deemed ‘awesome’ that has a decent keyboard.

    • Hi, thanks for the awesome comment.:) The MacBook pro has all the features you seek in terms of display. All of our writers use MacBook pro. By the way, gamers “need” GPU, not tiny screens and 1080p resolution. Those are personal preferences.

However, it is always good to have a better screen resolution in the laptop, especially since writers spend enormous amount of time in front of the laptops.

What laptops you think are the best for writers in your view? If you would answer that, other readers would have more options to choose from.

And looks like you are from Canada. All the laptops listed here might or might not be available up there. Good luck!
